Every week the same story. I have an alarm set for 6:15 for work, and every day I hit snooze at least once. Weekend rolls around and Saturday morning BAM! Wide awake at 6 AM.

Kinja'd!!!

AMA. You know me by now. Aerospace engineer by profession, autocrosser by hobby, just bought an Xbox one and already own 4 Corvettes in Forza 6

Picture is a rose at the Baha’i Gardens in Haifa, Israel. I was there back in January and I miss it dearly, the rest of my year has been super lame in comparison to the 10 days I spent in that beautiful country.

I figured out how much sleep my body needs and now I plan my bedtime accordingly. By now I pretty much always wake up 5 minutes before my alarm already feeling pretty awake. The morning shower does the rest.

I’m in the same boat. I wake up at 5 for the gym during the week. I was able to make it to 6:45. Small win.

Any plans for the weekend?

I need to put out living room back together after our remodel. Change the oil in the Evo and, if I’m feeling saucy, change the transmission fluid in the Mini.

Aerospace engineer

That is so impressive. Whenever I fly on a plane I always think (other than being afraid to death) how do they make this huge thing fly, have so good NVH inside the cabin, how can they wings flex so much without breaking or failure by fatigue. Aerospace engineering is one of the careers I have much respect for.

So because this is AMA: Why is the Boeing 787 Dreamliner so fucking noisy? I’m not talking about turbine or wind noise, but the flaps. They move constantly and make A LOT of noise.

In the same boat. I always get up at 5:30 for work so I can be there at 7:30. Guess what time it is now?

Maybe it’s an engineer thing(I’m 7/8ths of an EE specialized in micro/nanotech)? My school only offered 8 am for all of my phys/calcs and it takes a while to get to class here, so after two years of waking up at 5:50 am, I still do every morning even though I take my classes primarily online due to my condition, including this beautiful Saturday

Aerospace is so badass man! My dad has a few patents for certain types of Kevlar propellors for Beechcraft and ball aerospace

Embrace waking up early in the morning on the weekend. I use the wee inital hours to prep at least two meals for the day so the day’s work hours go as uninterrupted as possible (and if I'm working I put off eating entirely if I don't watch myself)

My little guy woke me up. At least you're not stuck watching Paw Patrol!

I haven’t been on a 787 and you’re the first person I’ve heard mention the noise.

I seem to recall that the 787 utilizes fly by wire ailerons actively to minimize turbulence and provide a smoother flight, which could explain why the control surfaces seem to move more than a more conventional aircraft like a 777

I've got a group report to work on a bit and autocross tomorrow. Should be a pretty laid back weekend otherwise

I think a lot of people just fall into a pattern when working a traditional 9-5 so weekends don't end up much different

What's your favorite way to have coffee? As a barista up since 5am, I feel your pain.

I'm just so jealous of those who can sleep in on weekends despite an early work week wake up time. I don't remember the last time I slept past 6:20, despite taking Lyrica (which is supposed to be a great sleep aid) for my epilepsy and migraines

I haven’t been on one, but it could also be because everything else actually is quieter, so you notice the flaps more and they seem much louder

I’m not a big coffee drinker, I opt for soda during the week. When I go out for breakfast on the weekend I’ll have coffee, I start with a little cream and sugar but then just drink it black

Gotcha. I drink mainly water and coffee, just some cream and no sugar. I recommend a French press if you ever have the option, very good and smooth way to have black coffee.

Yes! I had French pressed coffee at a restaurant in LA once, it was fantastic

I can normally sleep in on weekends, but I had to get up this morning since I’m taking a short trip to Toronto.

As for your question, what is your favourite shitty action movie?

I don't have much time anymore. Movies, TV, a little video games, and I used to fly model airplanes a lot

Engineer, eh? The rump of my 944 gets light with less than half a tank of fuel. How would you fix it?

Move the fuel tank forward and add some weight to the trunk so it doesn't affect the balance
